Solar Sipper drinking water news edited by Tom: Think about how you feel when your dog tries to lap the water in a dirty puddle. It’s time to make a decision about giving fresh water to wildlife. The days of providing water that is never changed in a dirty uncovered birdbath have to be over. Wildlife gets its fresh water from wetlands and we know from the Katrina wetlands fiasco that this source is being rapidly reduced. What’s left are backyards that are polluted by fertilizers for our grass and flowers, and a few declining wetland sources out in the country. Do we note that there are fewer birds coming to our feeders? It may be disease from lack of clean water. What can we do? Start putting out fresh water in clean outdoor containers on a daily basis like we do with our indoor pets. If you agree, comment at puddlesweblog.com and at thomashollyday on Facebook and Twitter. Read about the USDA National Resource Conservation Program at nrcs.usda.gov called Living in Harmony with Wetlands.

Internet Retailer magazine reports that retail sales numbers from the National Retail Federation in the category sport goods, hobby, books and music for December increased by 3.9 percent from last year.
