• No powerful household current - runs on standard D-cell flashlight batteries

All tests in Solar Sipper Inner Cup with 1 quart of water. All units used 12 AHr NiMH batteries. All tests conducted at night with wind less than 5 MPH.

We designed the Solar Sipper Water Warmer in consideration of bird and pet needs in the colder weather. The Water Warmers provide just enough power output to keep water liquid in various containers. For birds a very small amount of water is sufficient for drinking (birds don't bathe in freezing temperatures), so the Water Warmer can operate in a Solar Sipper by removing the top, or in Pet Sipper though the wider hole. For dogs and cats, the Pet Sipper design is perfect for the Water Warmer to do it's job and keep water from freezing.   Water Warmers can also be used in larger containers, and depending on local wind and other weather conditions, and the volume of water in the container, the units will keep the entire surface ice free or a hole large enough from which to drink.

Performance Note - as the container water volume increases (larger containers) or the surface area is increased (wide bird baths), for 20 deg. air temp, more heat is dispersed into the contents of the container, and this may result in a smaller amount of ice free water at the surface. The smaller the container and the better protected from the wind, the more free water will be available.
